Jon Bokenkamp in Lincoln

Went down to Lincoln to this month’s nifp meeting and had a chance to meet Jon Bokenkamp and his lovely wife and check out his directorial debut “Preston Tylk.” Jon’s a screenwriter that wrote “Taking Lives” (Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke) and “Perfect Stranger” (Halle Berry, Bruce Willis) and has done a lot of writing for the major studios in Hollywood so he had lots of interesting stories and behind the scenes anecdotes. He originally hails from Nebraska and has recently moved back so it was great to meet him and hopefully we’ll get a chance to see more of him in the near future.

As for “Preston Tylk” (or possibly “Bad Seed” on your Blockbuster shelf) I recommend it highly. Great performances by Luke Wilson, Norman Reedus, and Dennis Farina in an interesting crime drama that will keep you guessing until the end. And it’s quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever seen Luke Wilson in as he plays a jilted husband involved in a cat-and-mouse chase with the person that killed his wife. It’s always great being able to see a film with the filmmaker and participate in a Q&A session afterward and having a chance to get inside the writing and filmmaking process. If you have a chance to check out this film, do so. It’s certainly not your typical Hollywood fair and I believe you’ll be amazed by the performances.

As awesome as the film and Q&A were and having a chance to talk to everyone that came out, my highlight of the evening had to be: Seeing Lew Hunter, with his Omaha Film Festival shirt on. He had no idea Jeremy and I were going to be there so it’s obviously a standard part of his wardrobe. How cool is that?
